JP Morgan Tech Show: Atheros Skeptical About Wimax, Upbeat on Ethernet

Craig Barratt, the chief executive of wireless chip maker Atheros (ATHR), presented this afternoon at the JP Morgan technology conference, along with CFO Jack Lazar, and sent some skeptical vibes in the direction of the broadband wireless networking technology known as Wimax, which is being promoted heavily by Sprint (S), Intel (INTC), Google (GOOG), and US cable operators. The fact that wimax is wide area means it s substantially longer buy-in time, said Barratt. Billions of dollars in funding are required by the carriers to build those networks.
