World's largest platinum producer finally appoints new CEO

Anglo Platinum [JSE:AMS] said today it had appointed Neville Nicolau as CEO, ending months of uncertainty after Ralph Havenstein resigned on August 31 over safety issues. Angloplat, which produces 40% of the world s platinum as the largest global producer, had several shutdowns over safety in 2007. The company produced 2.47 million ounces of refined platinum in 2007. It has forecast output this year of about 2.4 million ounces, with about 30,000 ounces already lost to power cuts in South Africa and a further 120,000 ounces expected to be squeezed by reduced power supplies in the country....
