US Conference of Mayors Calls for Fuel Life-Cycle Analyses; Halt to Purchasing of Oil Sands-Derived Fuels

At its 76th Annual Meeting in Miami, Florida (20-24 June), the US Conference of Mayors adopted a resolution encouraging the use of life cycle analyses that evaluate the greenhouse gas emissions from the production includingextraction, refining, and transportation of fuels, includingunconventional and synthetic fuels.The resolution further encouraged mayors to track and reduce the lifecycle carbondioxide emissions from their municipal vehicles by preventing or discontinuing the purchase of higher-carbon unconventional or synthetic fuels for these vehicles.
